Maximize Your Money with Scale Purchase

During the final quarter of the calendar year, many businesses will look to reduce their annual tax bill to Uncle Sam.

We encourage you to check out the benefits of IRS Section 179. Section 179 allows customers to purchase or finance (lease to own) capital equipment up to $ 1,000,000, and be able to deduct the entire amount (dollar for dollar) from their Federal Income Taxes.

For businesses wanting to reduce their tax liability, this is a great tool that allows you to acquire capital equipment prior to year-end, as compared to waiting until calendar year 2020.

Here is an idea of what we’re talking about:

TAX ADVANTAGES
IRS Section 179 and Bonus Depreciation

The deduction limit for Section 179 is $1,000,000.

• This means that if you buy (or finance) a piece of equipment, you can deduct the Full Purchase Price (up to $1,000,000) from your gross income.

The 2019 Section 179 deduction threshold for total amount of equipment that can be purchased is $2,500,000.

• This means that you can purchase more equipment and still have the benefit of the Section 179 deduction.

BONUS DEPRECIATION:
100% for 2019 New and Used Equipment Allowed

• Under Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS) Bonus Depreciation has increased first-year depreciation deduction to 100% (vs. 50%) of the adjusted gross basis of qualified property.

• This goes into effect for assets placed in service after September 27, 2017 and before January 1, 2023.

• Another significant change under the new tax law, is you can use bonus depreciation for purchases of new or used property. Under prior law, you could only use bonus
depreciation for new property.

*Credit & equipment restrictions apply. This program does not assume your company will qualify to take advantage of the IRS Section #179 depreciation schedule which allows rapid first year depreciation of certain assets acquired. The amount of previous
depreciation your company may have used may affect your ability to utilize the elections. Please consult your tax advisor or accountant for additional information. Equipment must be purchased and placed in service by 1/1/2023.

Consider iQUBE² as a Digital Truck Scale Solution

When most potential customers seek a vehicle scale that also performs diagnostics, they often think of truck scales that use digital load cells. Digital load cells require A/D cards to be placed in every load cell to obtain diagnostic information.

Rice Lake Weighing Systems’ iQUBE², however, conducts A/D conversion at the junction box rather than the load cell. This means you will receive intelligent diagnostics from new or existing scales that use analog load cells.

Rice Lake Weighing Systems’ iQUBE² showing inner circuitry

Both devices sum the signals from each load sensor to determine the weight of the entire vehicle on the scale. The output of each load cell is compared to establish diagnostic information including real-time status of potential component failures, weighing errors and overall system health.

The iQUBE² Advantage

While analog and digital devices perform the same function, iQUBE offers impressive benefits at a more affordable price. In addition to providing diagnostics for Return to Zero, Load Cell Balance, Noise/Instability and Drift, iQUBE²:

  • Is non-proprietary
  • Pairs with analog load cells, which are more cost efficient
  • Conducts A/D conversion at the junction box, protecting sensitive electronic components

How to Create a Remote Scale System

A remote scale system uses two weight indicators to allow users to access scale functions without having physical access to the primary indicator, or “local” indicator. Historically, to create a remote scale system, a technician needed to add a second weight indicator to a scale and run the load cell signal to both indicators. Only one indicator supplied the scale with excitation; each unit was calibrated independently and operated as a separate system.

Today, however, creating a remote scale system has never been easier, thanks to remote indicator capabilities. To form a remote solution, a scale is paired with two digital weight indicators: a primary indicator, or “local” indicator, and a secondary “remote” indicator. The local weight indicator, connected to the scale, transmits a string of weight data to the remote weight indicator, which displays the weight with limited independence. This forms what is known as a remote scale, or secondary scale.

When weighing functions occur in more than one area, a remote scale can prove useful—in some cases, it may even be essential. Remote scales are ideal for environments such as a scale house and a front office, or a control room and a process floor.

Remote scales provide numerous benefits, including:

Access to weight data from a distance
Ability to perform scale functions without having physical access to the local indicator

Despite the advantages of remote scales, it is important to consider that some functionality may be limited. Before implementing a remote scale system, take note of the following:

A key press on the remote indicator will initiate basic weighing functions like zero and tare, performed by the local indicator. Not all functions may be supported or initiated from the remote indicator to the local indicator, such as keyed tares or setpoint values.
Printing at the remote location may or may not be supported by the remote indicator. Some remote indicators have printing capabilities, but others simply forward the command to the local indicator.

When it comes to printing with remote indicators, consider whether a tare weight is included with the transmitted weight from the local indicator. Typically, only gross or net weight is transmitted to the remote indicator, so a ticket that shows gross, tare and net information may need to be printed by the local indicator.
Databases are almost always resident in only the local indicator. Remotely accessing a database may be prevented for a number of reasons. If specific records are entered during the transaction, those will need to be entered at the local indicator.

Another method of setting up a remote scale is using a scale webserver. A scale webserver is a server that allows a local indicator to communicate scale data that can be read on a network, through a PC or a handheld device. Typically, weighing functions can be performed at these remote locations, just like at the local indicator.

Whether you opt to form a remote scale system using local/remote indicators or a webserver, remote scales can streamline your process and increase accessibility. Central Carolina Scale offers a variety of weighing solutions. Optimize efficiency in your process with a Rice Lake indicator. Call our sales team at (919) 776-7737 to request a quote today.

Popular Truck Scale Accessories to Consider

Quality truck scale accessories increase efficiencies and optimize the flow of trucks in and out of your plant.

Knowing exactly which truck scale accessories will complement your current operations can help you better select an overall truck scale system and manufacturer. Refer to your site planning flow map to see where an accessory can speed up processes and reduce the risk of human error.

Always consider the space an accessory will need prior to installing your truck scale system to ensure the best truck maneuverability and flow.

Accessories include attended and automated ticketing kiosks, remote displays, traffic signals, printers, guiderails and more.

Guide Rails
Guiderails offer drivers protection against accidental drive-offs.

Many suppliers offer guiderails…. make sure you examine the designs of each with your scale supplier closely, including the shape and strength of the rail.

Some guiderails have open-ended rails, while others are sealed or plugged with an end cap. Open-ended rails can accumulate debris and moisture, and guiderails plugged with an end cap can corrode from the inside if moisture seeps past the cap.

Caps with a welded seal offer the best protection, keeping debris and moisture build-up out of the rail.

Truck Scale Accessories

Automated Ticketing Kiosks
From RFID truck identification to load assignment, weighing and ticketing, unattended automated ticketing kiosks optimize truck traffic and improve safety by keeping drivers behind the wheel. Many manufacturers’ kiosks can integrate with your central office and accounting systems.

Printers and printer kiosks improve more than just speed and accuracy. Many printer kiosk systems offer state-of-the-art features like RFID, vehicle recognition and durable weatherproof designs.

Truck Scale Data Management
Truck scale data management software can print tickets or reports, as well as store information to a central database.

Data management software enhances the functionality of automated ticketing kiosks by providing advanced data management and reporting capabilities. Most software systems are adaptable to a wide variety of industries and are compatible with many popular operating systems, streamlining your scale house or front office operations with your truck scale.

Most manufacturers’ software allows you to generate reports, often broken down by a number of variables including customer, hauler, truck, product and vendor.

Remote Displays
Whether you need to see weight readouts up close or messages at a distance, remote displays light up information to increase efficiency and provide direction to drivers. Many remote displays are customizable and feature stop/go red and green signal lights.

Traffic Stop Lights
Industrial-strength stop lights professionally communicate the universal stop/go red and green signals at a distance, speeding up scale traffic and eliminating congestion.

Barrier Gates
Barrier gates block access at the entry or exit of your truck scale. Most gates are electronically controlled to open or close after a designated action is taken.

Top Physician Beam Scales for Doctors Offices and Hospitals

We’ve all seen these scales over the years when we visit the doctors office. It’s the scale that you step on and then the nurse slides the weight across in order to get the beam to line up in the middle. Once the beam stops moving and is centered, your weight is determined.

The scale actually takes awhile to display the patient weight when compared to a modern digital scale. But, the traditional “doctors office scale” with the beam is generally very reliable and are built to last a long, long time.

physician beam scales

The top choices of physician beam scales are typically the brands you would expect. HealthOMeter Professional manufacturers a wide lineup of mechanical doctors office scales which are easy to use and reliable like the model 402KL. These scales typically feature long warranties and can be ordered with or without height rod, wheels or the ability to display kg or lbs.

Seca is another popular brand of physician beam scales that hospitals and medical centers like to utilize. The model 700 from seca features slip resistant cast iron base and anti-tip column design, which also allows patients to be safely measured and weighed. The scale is printed on both sides, allowing both patient and nurse to read the weight. For the ultimate in versatility, the model 700 is also available in five other versions: kg only with stadiometer, lbs only with a stadiometer and handle, lbs only with stadiometer, lbs/kg with no stadiometer, and lbs/kg with stadiometer.

Detecto has long been a brand of choice for physicians for decades. Their world renowned eye-level mechanical weigh beam physician scales feature a heavy-duty platform, a dual-reading die-cast weigh beam which may be read from either side of the scale. Featuring long-lasting, durable steel construction with an electrostatic powder paint finish for optimum quality. Height rod, wheels, and handpost features available as options if needed.

Over the years, these are the top physician beam scales in our opinion. When you are interested in purchasing one of these scales, we recommend that you contact us with exactly what features you would like (such as 500 lb capacity, height rod, wheels etc…) and we can put together a quote with our top recommendations for you.

BUILDUP UNDER THE TRUCK SCALE

The next step in a truck scale inspection is to inspect all critical components. Depending on the scale, the technician checks for buildup of dirt, sand, mud and debris underneath the scale. Dirt buildup under the scale platform is often one of the top reasons for scale inaccuracy.

If the truck scale has bumper bolts, the technician will examine these and adjust if necessary. It’s also a good time to look at any other areas that may need to be addressed periodically such as junction boxes, grounding, rubber t-grip molding, load cell caps, pit cleanliness and more depending on the type of scale. The technician also checks cabling, structural steel, and concrete approach pads.

scale calibration test truck

Next, the scale technician will drive the fully loaded test truck across the scale and check the sections for consistency and accuracy. Weights are recorded and used to assist with adjusting.

certified weight cart

Next, the technician unloads all the certified test weights into a specialized weight cart. This cart is also certified by the state weights and measures department and is traceable to NIST. Then, the technician checks each section of the motor truck scale.

When we mention the word “section” we’re referring to an area of weighbridge which bears on two supporting platform points. Once the section testing of the motor truck scale has been completed, the scale can be adjusted and calibrated if needed.

scale test truck on platform

The technician can once again drive across the sections with the fully loaded test truck which includes the certified weights and certified weight cart. The section weights and the overall weights should be consistent and accurate. The calibration and inspection is now complete.

The technician loads his vehicle and reopens the scale for traffic. Once the technician has moved off the scale and the scale has reopened, the technician completes all the necessary paperwork. The inspection detail report shows both the condition of the scale and components, as well as the as found and as left test results.

Central Carolina Scale has the factory trained technicians, certified test weights, and certified test carts to accurately and thoroughly check your vehicle scales. Give us a call today (919) 776-7737 and we can work with you to customize a service plan that will improve your accuracy and limit downtime.

Frequently Asked Questions about the CAS S2000 Jr Commercial Scale

This time of the year it’s always good to start talking about price computing scales. If you currently own a set of scales, then you need to get them out and make sure they are weighing correctly and displaying correctly on both sides. You also need to make sure the battery is working if you have a built in rechargeable battery.

The CAS S2000 Junior retail price computing scale is popular with customers who want a reliable scale that they can use at the market when selling their fruits, vegetables, candy and more. Sure there are less expensive scales out there, but often those scales are constantly needing parts while the s2000 jr keeps on working.

It’s hard to believe, but we’ve been offering this scale to our customers since 2006!  In that time, we’ve accumulated more than a few questions from our customers, either before the sale or after the sale.

So, below are the top frequently asked questions about the CAS S2000 Jr scale. Hopefully, if you’re in the market for this scale, your question will get answered below. If you still have questions be sure to contact our sales department.

cas s2000 jr price computing scale

Q: CAS S2000 Junior operation instructions?
A: Basically, the way the scale works is as follows. Place your items on the scale. Items could be strawberries, bananas, pumpkins, fudge, frozen yogurt, nails, screws, bolts etc… whatever you need to charge the customer by the pound, kilogram or ounce. Then enter your price per pound that you want to charge the customer. Once you do that, the scale will display the total charge on both the front side (operator view) and back side of the scale (customer view).

Q: Does the S2K JR scale have a change calculating function?
A: No, it does not. You might want to see the Rice Lake RS-130.

Q: If the scale includes a certificate of conformance number (CoC#) do I still have to get these scales tested and calibrated for commercial use by the state?
A: Best answer is, contact your individual state weights and measures department. Each state has their own rules regarding certified scales. Generally, you will want to purchase a NTEP approved scale with a CoC# (which the S2000 Jr has).

Q: Can you tell me if the increments are by 0.01 or 0.02 or something else?
A: The CAS Scale s2000 jr is available from Central Carolina Scale in three different capacities. 15 lb, 30 lb and 60 lb. Each of those is what we call “dual range”. Dual range means that the scales display a certain increment until they reach half capacity, then they display a different increment from half way to full capacity. For example, on the 60 lb capacity model… the scale will display increments of 0.01 pound on weights that range from 0 to 30 pounds. Then from 30.02 up to 60 pounds, the scale will display in increments of 0.02 lb.

Q: Does this scale weigh in Ounces?
A: Yes it does. Great for frozen yogurt shoppes.

Q: How long can the unit operate on a single charge of the battery?
A: Manufacturer says around 200 hours with no backlight and auto off functionality.

Q: What capacities are available and which should I choose?
A: 15, 30 or 60 pounds are the capacity choices. With the dual range capability, this scale is kind of like having two scales for the price of one. Most customers selling berries or smaller fruits and vegetables would choose a 30 lb or 60 lb capacity. Candy or yogurt stores might choose the 15 lb capacity.

Q: What is the battery life between charges?
A: According to CAS, Approx. 200 Hours LCD (no backlight) with a 12 hour charging time.

Q: I have your quote for the CAS s2000 JR. It costs more than the ____, why should I buy the S2000 Jr instead of the cheaper scale?
A: The s2000 JR is a reliable scale that is popular with customers. We have sold just about every retail scale out there and the s2000 jr is, in our opinion, the best overall value in price computing scales that we currently offer. Who knows, that might change sometime down the road, but as of now, this is the best scale for this type of application.  The cheaper scales, in our experience, tend to have components that fail more often. So with those scales, you tend to be replacing AC adapters and keypads more frequently.

Q: Hi, I own a frozen yogurt shop. Will this scale read in 0.1 ounce?
A: Yes, the 15 lb capacity scale and the 30 lb capacity scale would be the best choices for you to consider.

Q: If I was interested in adding a label printer, would this scale allow me to put a custom logo or company name on the label?
A: Sorry, but the CAS S2000 JR has limited capability in this area. Logos and customization would be something you might see with CAS advanced label printing scales like the LP1000 and CL5000.

Q: Do you offer a replacement battery for the CAS S2000 JR scale?
A: Yes please call our sales department.

Q: Is this NSF certified in the US for deli usage?
A: No, this is not NSF certified. However, the scale is a NTEP legal for trade commercial scale.

Q: Does this scale have a rear display for the customer to see?
A: Yes this scale has rear display for weight and price info.

Q: What type of battery does the s2000 JR take? What is the replacement cost for the battery?
A: Takes a Rechargeable Battery, normally in stock. Call our sales department for price and availability.

Q: What is the platter size?
A: 12 (W) x 8.75 (D) inches.

Q: Where is the CAS S-2000 Junior scale made?
A: To the best of our knowledge, this scale is made in either China or South Korea.

Q: Do you have a better Owners Manual / User Guide?
A: Unfortunately, no. Several customers have complained over the years about the manual.

Q: How many Price look ups does the scale have?
A: 3 Direct PLU’s and 197 Indirect PLU’s

Q: Does the S2000 JR scale arrive calibrated?
A: The scales are calibrated at the factory or by us before you receive yours. So in most instances the scale should be accurate when you receive it. Note, every now and then, a delivery company will decide to treat the box like a football and that could lead to the scale being out of tolerance when you receive it.

Q: Is this scale legal for trade?
A: Yes the S2000 JR model is NTEP approved and legal for trade

Q: Why should I buy this scale from you when I can get it from other websites online?
A: We are an authorized CAS dealer and have a direct relationship with them in New Jersey. We also typically stock the scale. That means fast delivery and accurate calibration, so when you order your scale from Central Carolina Scale, you know that you will receive it quickly and it will be accurate.

Q: What are dimensions of the scale?
A: 13 x 13.6 x 4.2 inches

Q: Can this scale be used for weighing laundry?
A: Yes this can be considered a commercial laundry scale. We also have a metal basket that it can be used with.

Q: Does the scale have dual display?
A: Yes, it has displays on the front and back showing the weight, price and total cost.

Q: Does the S2000 Junior have a battery included?
A: Yes

Q: Can this scale add up multiple transactions for a total for the customer?
A: For that, you might want to take a look at the Ohaus Aviator 7000, or many customers just have a calculator beside the scale.

Q: Can I attach a pole display to the CAS s2kjr model?
A: No, in order to have a pole display, you would need to order the pole display version of the scale.

We hope that this page has helped you out regarding the CAS S 2000 Junior retail scale. If you’re looking for a reliable price computing scale, this would be a great choice. The fact that the scale has three different capacity choices, each with “dual range” capability, make this a great choice that is both versatile and accurate.
